Point-of-care (POC) lab tests

Blood Glucose Testing 

Used to measure the amount of glucose in the blood, this test is crucial for diabetes management. Patients with diabetes might undergo frequent POC glucose testing to monitor their blood sugar levels.

Rapid Strep Test

This test detects the presence of streptococcal bacteria, the cause of strep throat. It allows for the quick initiation of appropriate antibiotic therapy.

Influenza Tests

Rapid flu tests can detect influenza viruses in respiratory specimens, helping to diagnose and treat flu infections during peak seasons. 

COVID-19 Tests

Rapid antigen tests and, in some cases, PCR tests can be performed at the point of care to detect current coronavirus infections. 

Urinalysis Strips

These test strips can quickly assess various components of urine, such as pH, protein, glucose, and the presence of infections, providing valuable information about a patient’s metabolic and kidney health.  

Pregnancy Tests

Rapid detection of the hormone hCG in urine can confirm pregnancy within minutes.
